How to Sustain Your “New Year Motivation” All Year Long

“New Year, New Me”….How many times have you heard that since last weekend? I think more to the point is; how many of the people who’ve been religiously using that phrase since New Year’s Eve will actually stick to it past the second week in January. Now, please don’t get me wrong, the New Year provides us with a fantastic opportunity to set positive targets, goals and aspirations for ourselves and our businesses for the 365 days to come. However, once the social hype has died down these inevitably get put on the back burner. So we’ve collected together the 6 methods we find most effective to maintain the motivation all year round and ensure you absolutely boss 2018!!

  1. FORGET REPETITION

The first is quite simple – Don’t try and repeat last year’s failed resolution….it clearly didn’t work for a reason. However if you’re as stubborn as the best of us; figure out why it didn’t work last year and amend, adjust and fine tune it to something more achievable this time round.

  1. BREAK YOUR GOALS INTO STAGES

Create “subgoals” which will lead up to the end target. Make sure these are meticulous, methodical and measureable – The 3 M’s. Once these are in place, set deadlines for each to be completed by. These deadlines are not to be extended.

  1. SCOOBY SNACKS

As much as we all like to think we’re hugely complex creatures….in retrospect, we’re not. Just like dogs we work best when there’s a treat in sight. After your subgoals and their deadlines have been decided plan a reward for the end of each one. This will not only help you step back and acknowledge the progress being made, but also give you the next dose of motivation needed to continue!

  1. BE ORIGINAL

The most detrimental thing you can do is be a sheep. If its business related, make sure your goals are 100% relevant to your company, business or career. Choose something that will make you stand out from the crowd so you can look back at the end of 2018 and reap the rewards.

If it’s personal, don’t feel under pressure to set yourself targets that social media is making you believe you should set. If it isn’t something you NEED, something you WANT and something that matters to YOU….I can assure you the motivation will rapidly subside.

  1. MAKE YOURSELF ACCOUNTABLE

Have objectives you and your colleagues can work on together – Teamwork is Dreamwork! Or if they’re personal then talk them through with an amigo. When you voice your intentions to another human or several humans, your accountability subsequently increases dramatically. Not only this but you will also receive support off those you’ve communicated with should you need it.

  1. CELEBRATE WITH CONNECT IN EVENTS!

You will, without a shadow of a doubt, want to celebrate your achievements and success if the above advice works as it should. So the only viable step to take when this time comes is to pick up the phone and give us a call!

You can thank me for that one later 😉

Happy New Year xx
